The Brigade Company Chaplains’ Workshop (Unit Churches)
The Brigade Company Chaplains’ Workshop (Unit Churches) was held on Saturday, 5th April, 2025. The workshop comprised of chaplains of all Brigade Companies in different church units in the Anglican Diocese of Enugu.
The workshop started at 11am with arrivals and signing of the registration form, and the opening prayer was said by the Diocesan Brigade Chaplain, Rev. Chidi Obi, at 11:30am. This was followed by a session of praise and worship songs.
At 12pm, His Lordship, the Rt. Rev’d Prof. Samuel Obiajulu Ike, the Bishop of Enugu Diocese (Anglican Communion), gave a Charge that revolved around 1 John 2:14 (KJV) – “I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.”
The bishop said that John was writing to young men, and because the chaplains are chaplains of young men, they are part of the people to whom this letter and charge were addressed.
The bishop went further to state that we are strongest (physically) during the times of our youth, therefore, we should make it count. He also said that the most effective people God used in the scriptures were youths, giving examples like – Moses, Ruth, Joseph, the Three Hebrew Boys, Mary the mother of Christ, etc., with mentions of men of old such as, John Wesley and Charles Wesley. His Lordship, the Rt. Rev. Samuel O. Ike emphasised the importance of the word of God abiding in us, with relevant scripture references – Colossians 3:16; 1 Peter 2:2; Romans 10: 17 and Hebrews 4:12.
In conclusion, the bishop stated that:
“You are as mature a leader as the measure of the word of God you have inside.”
He urged the participants to spend time with the word of God. He later made an alter call and prayed.
Earlier on, before the bishop delivered his Charge, he asked the Diocesan Boys Brigade Coordinator, Bro. Valentine Iwundu, who is also a shoemaker, to display his products for all to see. He asked that this young man be encouraged by both the clergy and laity in the diocese by patronizing him.
The Bishop directed that the shoes be displayed on the Diocesan Clergy WhatsApp Platform and all current information channels in the diocese’s church units. This will give the products more awareness/visibility, and patronage. His Lordship also requested for his own shoe size measurement be taken so that Bro. Valentine will make a pair for him, and possibly for his children afterwards. Bro. Valentine’s office address is – No. 56 Silver Smith Street, Coal Camp, Ogbete, Enugu.
Lectures were also presented at the workshop. These include Lecture 1, which was presented by Bro. Godwin Ifesinachi (Brigade State Council President), and focused on The Brigade and Church Relationship, while Lecture 2 was anchored by Bro. Ifeanyi Anene (Brigade State Council executive member), and the focus was on The Chaplain and His Company.
There was a Question and Answer (Q&A) session at the end of the lectures, before the closing remarks, announcements, and closing prayer.
