A Solemn Assembly at Federal Government College Enugu
A Solemn Assembly at Federal Government College Enugu
It was an epoch-making event, as His Lordship, the Rt. Rev’d Prof. Samuel Obiajulu Ike, Bishop of the Diocese of Enugu (Anglican Communion), took a trip to his alma mater – Federal Government College (FGC) Enugu, to participate in the first ever SOLEMN ASSEMBLY held to usher in a new term – the 3rd term.
The bishop delivered a charge, titled, “What made me; Who made me.” He shared examples of his experiences growing up – from his humble beginnings at Community Primary School Ngwo-Uno, through his FGC Enugu days where he surrendered his life to Christ, to where God is using him today to fulfil His purpose.
He went on to recount the events that surrounded his greatest decision in life – giving his life to Christ as a Form 1 student in FGC Enugu, in January 1977, and how he went on to become the Overall Best Form 1 student. The bishop gave the students and staff, a road map on how to achieve God’s purpose in their lives, “The 3Ps of a successful student, staff, director/principal etc.” These are:
1.) PURPOSE
2.) PRAYER
3.) ACTIVATING DIVINE PLAN
He gave an exposition on these 3Ps using the scripture – Jeremiah 29:11-14, thus;
“11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.” NIV
He reminded all present at the event that though God has a Divine Plan for everyone (student, teachers, principal, etc.), many fail to Activate this divine plan in their lives, often as a result of the absence of Purpose and Prayer.
In conclusion, His Lordship encouraged the assembly that when they Pray unto God, God will hear them. He also told them that when they Purpose to seek God with their whole heart, they will find God. These are the two requirements needed before anyone can Activate God’s Divine Plan in their lives. He then advised the students to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (as early as he did as a form 1 student), and every other thing (including academic excellence) will be given to them.
In his remarks, the Director/Principal of FGC Enugu, Evangelist Ezekiel Ogbuanya expressed his immense gratitude to the Lord Bishop, for honouring them with his presence and for impacting the lives of the students greatly.
Many people – both the students and the staff – gave their lives to Jesus Christ at the end of the event.
To God be all the glory!
