Frank Edwards visits Bishop Samuel Ike

Renowned music minister, Frank Edwards, paid a courtesy visit to the Lord Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, the Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel O. Ike, on Friday, 11th of April, 2025, in his office at the Bishop’s Court complex.

This visit was a home coming of sorts for Frank as he was born in Enugu, and had his formative years in the Anglican Church.

In his entourage were Ven. & Mrs Uchennageme Ugwu (Archdeacon/Vicar of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church Asata, Enugu) and Dr. Emeka Ejim (Diocesan Youth Adviser/Deputy Rector, Institute of Management and Technology IMT Enugu),among others.

Dr. Emeka Ejim introduced Frank Edwards to the Bishop, explaining the reason for the home coming. Dr. Ejim stated that the gospel music icon is back to his base – St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Asata, Enugu – with a gospel music concert (Spirit Ways Worship Concert) and mentorship classes, where many Frank Edwards of our time will be raised. This event is scheduled to hold later that evening at St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church field.

In his response/affirmation of Dr. Ejim’s introduction, Frank said that his mission to Enugu is pertinent in times like these. He reminisced about his formative years, where his musical gift manifested at a very young age, and his upbringing in the Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF) of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu. This Christian upbringing helped in his character formation, making it difficult for him to compromise his Christian faith wherever he found himself globally.

Going further, the Mma Mma singer said that the Frank Edwards we see today is an embodiment of four virtues – Grace of God, Discipline, Service, and Character. He professed that Service got him to where he is today, and Grace of God, Discipline, and Character have made him outstanding. Frank also thanked the Bishop for the wonderful work the Lord is using him to do in the Anglican Diocese of Enugu.

In his remarks, the Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel O. Ike expressed his delight that Frank made himself an agent of revival. The Bishop also told him that part of his music ministry (reaching out to/reviving the youth) is in line with the main mandate God gave him on the emergence of his Episcopacy in Enugu Diocese. He said that he came on board as the third Bishop of Enugu when the glory of God has almost gone from the Church, hence his mantra of Revival.

The Bishop said that this revival the Lord told him to pursue has three legs:

1.) Revival of the renewed obedience to the word of God.
2.) Living a relentless prayer lifestyle.
3.) Repentance from every known sin.

His Lordship pointed out some of the young people that championed revival in their days and affirmed that young people must be the vanguard of revival in our time.

Using 1 Corinthians 4:2,

Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful,”

the Bishop gave a brief exhortation, saying that anyone who has gifts is a steward. He said that a steward serves with responsibility and that he must give account. Faithfulness is what is required of a steward.

The bishop charged Frank never to aspire to be famous, wealthy/rich, but to be found faithful. He defined faithfulness as one accomplishing his/her duty the way no other person can do it better – before God and before man. The Bishop, Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel O. Ike bestowed his episcopal blessings on Frank Edwards, declaring that the program (Spirit Ways Worship Concert) he came into Enugu to host with young people will yield much fruit to the glory of God.
