Peter Obi partners with Anglican Diocese of Enugu
It was a joyous day as His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi made a donation of N20m (twenty million naira), towards the ongoing construction of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu’s Primary Healthcare Centre (PHCC) at Amafor-Ihuokpara, Nkanu East L.G.A., Enugu State.
The Ihuokpara Primary Healthcare Centre is the pilot PHCC (out of a proposed 3), initiated by the Anglican Bishop of Enugu, the Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel Obiajulu Ike, as one of his visions for affordable and quality healthcare to be accessible to the populace, especially in rural underserved areas of Enugu State.
Present to receive H.E. Peter Obi at the Bishop’s Court (where he made a stop before the journey to Amafor Ihuokpara), were the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel O. Ike, the Archdeacons of the diocese and other clergy, Sir Robert Anwatu (Founder/CEO Roban Group – Roban Hotels, Roban Stores, Roban Estate, and immediate past chairman, Anglican Diocese of Enugu Council of Knights), Sir Engr. Chris Okoye (serial entrepreneur/consultant civil engineer/chairman Diocesan Investment Committee), and a host of others.
H.E. Peter Obi, did not just make a donation, but physically visited the construction site at Amafor-Ihuokpara, an act that reflects his passion, and in the bishop’s words, “…..typical politicians, whatever they wanted to do, they would have just been comfortable at the Bishop’s Court, and have the whole world watch them. But taking the trouble, to traverse 45minutes, under the hot sun, it just proves you are still a rare breed. For sowing this seed into the life of the community, we use it as a point of contact in touching the lives of the ordinary man, who cannot otherwise, access healthcare when they need it most. You have made our day, this community, and the rest of the people who will benefit from here, not just for politics – for posterity. The Lord remember you and your efforts for good in Jesus name. Amen.”
In his remarks, H.E. Peter Obi expressed gratitude for the wonderful work the bishop is doing for the church, and for the Ihuokpara community. He said that he insisted to visit to see things for himself, because visiting makes a world of difference.
H.E. Peter Obi while making the donation, said that the N20m is his initial donation towards the project. He declared himself a partner to the Anglican Diocese of Enugu, and promised to continue supporting the bishop towards the completion of this Ihuokpara PHCC project, and other similar projects the Diocese embarks on. In his entourage was Prof. Mrs Chinyere Stella Okunna (former Chief of Staff/former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, during the administration of the then Governor Peter Obi in Anambra State).
Others present at the event were the Chairman and the Co-Chairman of the Diocesan Physical Planning Committee (DPPC), Engr. Nnanyelugo Onyemelukwe and Sir Arc. Chris Ike (supervisors of the project), Arc. Mrs Ekene Ugwuegede (member of the DPPC), the Chairman, Diocesan Primary Healthcare Establishment Committee – Prof. Emma Nwobi, and a host of others.
